Autscape 2010 will be held in a venue in the Ammerdown Conference Centre in Somerset.
Location
Ammerdown is a retreat centre near Bath. The venue has a peaceful and tranquil location, nestled in the Somerset countryside, only thirteen miles from the Georgian City of Bath. Most of the extensive grounds are available for walking in all the year round and heron, buzzards and many other birds, as well as deer, can often be seen.
Accommodation
Accommodation is in twin bedded rooms with ensuite shower room. Double bedded and a few single rooms are also available. If you don't already have someone you would like to share a room with, you will be matched with another participant on the basis of your needs and preferences. It is also possible to stay off-site and attend for days only.
Food Service
Autscape registration includes 3 meals per day for those staying on-site. Mealtimes (subject to revision) are: Breakfast (self-service) 7.30-9.00, Lunch 12.30, Supper 6.30. We hope to have the menus available closer to the event.
Meals are served cafeteria-style, with a queue and servers, in a communal dining hall, but once you have your meal you can take it to your room or out to the garden if you find a full room difficult. No food or drink may be taken to the meeting rooms due to problems with spills.
Coffee and tea are always available and biscuits and cakes served once in the morning and once in the afternoon. There is an onsite bar which opens in the evenings where drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic) can be bought.
Most special diets (e.g. nuts, seafood, dairy and gluten free diets as well as vegetarian, vegan, and diabetic diets) can be catered provided you let us know your needs at least one month in advance.
Buildings, Rooms and Grounds
Harness Room
The Harness Room is located in a separate building near the main building and garden. Its official name is the Harness Room from the days when it was used in horse riding.
Chapel
Although Autscape has no religious affiliation at all, the venue has an interfaith/Christian orientation. There is a chapel on-site, which is sometimes used for prayer by the resident community (which Autscape participants were welcome to join). However, the rest of the time it is another peaceful and pleasant environment to get away and relax.
Grounds
The venue is on a very large estate with lawns, tall hedges, and woodland. Autscape attendees are welcome to walk around the grounds as they please except for the private areas, which are clearly marked.
